DRAFT Quarterly Report for Q1 2015

The Adoption Group has a mailing list, a web site, a wiki and 8 Group Members, of which 7 have been active on the mailing list or contributed to the wiki in this quarter. In addition, 13 Participants have contributed to this Group's discussions in this quarter.

The Adoption Group has not voted on new Members, or sponsored new Projects. It published a quarterly report in this quarter for Q4 2014, which is available on its wiki.

Mailing list traffic

In total, 20 Participants have been active on the Group's mailing list in this quarter, posting 58 messages in January, 91 messages in February and 31 messages in December 2014, resulting in 180 messages in total.

Notable mailing list threads

In January, the Group discussed milling Project Coin and the closure of that Project's mailing lists, computing code coverage results for OpenJDK JDK 9  source code using JCov & JTreg code tools, an update from JITWatch, changes to Betterrev, updates to information about FOSS projects participating in the Quality Outreach effort, the preparation of the Group's Draft Quarterly Report for Q4 2014, the state of JavaFX on ARM, criteria for adding new Members to the Adoption Group, and a Primitives in Generics workshop in the Bulgarian JUG.

In February, the Group discussed updates to the README-builds.html file in JDK 9 and OpenJDK Project web site pages, code coverage for OpenJDK in general, and langtools specifically, logging issues in JBS, a build farm for OpenJFX on ARM, patches adding JDK 9 platform support for NetBeans, moving the Quality Outreach page to the Quality Group, JEP 238: Multi-version JAR files, removed files in JDK 9, the dark arts of benchmarking, participation in Google's summer of code, and a compiler warning fixing focused event at the Bulgaria JUG.

Finally, in March, the Group continued to discuss code coverage, the 2014 OpenJDK Scorecard Survey, follow up blogs from the Primitives in Generics workshop by the Bulgarian JUG in January, further updates to Betterrev, and a Hackday in London organized by the LJC.

QA Outreach

As part of a QA outreach effort by this Group's Members, 45 FOSS Projects and their developers listed on the corresponding Wiki page have been regularly contacted to announce the availability of Early Access (EA) builds based on various OpenJDK Projects, and encouraged to report back any issues they found during their testing.

In this quarter, developers from participating projects filed 4 new issues in the JDK Bug System, 2 of which could be resolved. All of the issues filed turned out to be P3 issues.

The QA outreach effort has graduated out of the Adoption Group and moved to the Quality Group in February.

Events

Adoption Group Members led, organized and participated in a number of public events promoting community involvement in the development, adoption and evangelism of OpenJDK projects during this quarter.

JUGs

The LJC held a successful OpenJDK Hackday in London in February. The Bulgarian JUG held a Primitives in Generics workshop in January, and a compiler warnings fixing day in February.

Conferences

Adoption Group Members spoke at the FOSDEM conference in Belgium in  February. In addition, Adoption Group Members participated in the early adopters area of the JavaLand conference in Germany in March.
